Day 5 - A Day Onboard in Civitavecchia

We had received notice earlier in the week that our half day tour for today had been cancelled.  As the tour to Rome, which most people took, was a ten hour tour, we had opted for a tour of an old historic town called Tarquinia, and then a visit to a family run gelateria (where they make the famous and fabulous Italian ice cream).  Unfortunately, not enough other people wanted to take that tour, so it was cancelled for lack of numbers.  We checked with the excursions desk, but nothing else was available, so we ended up spending a lovely lazy day onboard an almost empty ship!

Not at all picturesque!

As I have no local area photographs to share, I will take you on a little tour of some of the aspects of the ship, Liberty of the Seas.  This ship is one of the "Freedom" class of ships, the second largest in the world, second only to the Oasis class.  Freedom class includes Freedom of the Seas (the first), Liberty of the Seas, and Independence of the Seas (Gareth cruised on Independence in March of this year).  The Freedom class are approximately 160,000 tons, almost 20,000 tons heavier than any other cruise line's largest ship.  The Oasis class (Oasis and Allure) are 252,000 tons!

On each level of the stairways art is displayed

The internet area where I was able to check into facebook and send a few messages.  Internet speed is usually pretty good on the ships, but I found it very slow in the Mediterranean.

The Schooner Bar, where the trivia contests were held.  We never actually went there for a drink.

Lazing around in the sunshine on deck in the afternoon.  I'm seated above the Solarium area at the front of the ship.

Above me, the ship is flying the Royal Caribbean and Italian flags.

CATHY'S CORNER:

The theme for this night's dinner was "Sage", which was incorporated into this amazingly delicious roast chicken main course. Best chicken I have ever had on a ship!  I ate all of it, in spite of having spent the day eating non-stop and being lazy. For dessert I had roast peaches.... mmmmm!
